Gregory Bortey Promise Newman, better known by his stage name King Promise, is a Ghanaian Afrobeats & Highlife singer, and songwriter.

Formerly known by his nickname as “Boy Pee”, King Promise is signed to KillBeatz’s record label, Legacy Life Entertainment (LLE).

King Promise draws a lot of inspiration from Highlife legends like Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, and Ofori Amponsah.

The clean-shaven Ghanaian artiste is best known for hit songs like “CCTV” featuring Sarkodie & Mugeez, and “Tokyo” featuring Davido.

Age

Gregory Bortey Promise Newman aka King Promise was born on Wednesday, August 16th, 1995.

The “Abena” hitmaker is currently 27 years old and will be 28 come next year, 2023.

King Promise was born to businessman Mr Francis Newman and trader, Angela Quaye in Accra.

He was lucky to have a music-loving dad who so much loved good music and constantly played such to his hearing, making him who he is today.

Early in 2020, the rumour mill had it that the “Hey Sexy” hitmaker was going out with the beautiful newscaster of GHOne TV, Serwaa Amihere.

Both King Promise and Serwaa Amihre have publicly denied having any amorous relationship.

According to King Promise, rumours of them (he & Serwaa) dating spread on social media after they were spotted together during the christening of music producer Killbeatz’s baby on Sunday, January 26th, 2020.

The “CCTV” hitmaker maintains that for now, all his focus is on his music but if nature decides in the near future that he marries Serwaa Amihere, he surely will do so.

What they both say is that, it is just “friendship” and nothing else even though the rumour mill still keeps stinging like a bee.

JHS, SHS & University Education

King Promise had both his basic and junior high school education at De Kings Academy in Accra.

He attended Nungua Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana for his high school education.

King Promise graduated from the Central University on December 9, 2017, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Marketing).

Also present at the 17th graduation ceremony held at Mitso Campus was the Chancellor of the Central University, Pastor Dr Mensah Otabil.

Music Career

One of the key figures who played a vital role in King Promise’s love for good music was his father, Mr Francis Newman.

Growing up as a kid, King Promise listened to all kinds of music played by his dad and that is what has made him the good singer he is today.

He started making waves when he first dropped singles like “So Special” and “No Problem”.

In 2016, King Promise made a huge music statement when he released “Thank God” produced by Killbeatz which featured UK-based Ghanaian, Fuse ODG.

Some of the best artistes King Promise has worked in his music career include: BET award winner Sarkodie, Wizkid, Mr Eazi, Fuse ODG, Adina, Pappy Kojo, Darkovibes, Scientific, J-Town, among others.

He was featured on DJ Vision’s smash hit titled “Double Trouble” which also had Sarkodie on. The “Double Trouble” song topped most of the chart shows for weeks in Ghana.

King Promise exhibited his songwriting prowess when he co-wrote the award-winning song “Too late” performed by Adina and produced by Killbeatz.

The “Too Late” song by Adina went on to win the “Record of the year” at the 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
