Parents

Nana Ama was born to Madam Cecilia Agyenim Boateng and Mr. Kwabena Nkrumah in Kumasi, and became known as Felicity Ama Agyemang.

She only had to ‘change’ her name from Felicity Ama Agyemang to Nana Ama McBrown because her parents got divorced when she was very young and was adopted by her auntie Madam Betty Obiri Yeboah and her adopted father Kofi McBrown.

The Empress aka #Brimm is also on record to have said that she changed her name because her uncle in the USA told her the name Nana Ama McBrown would serve as a better brand than her original name, Felicity Ama Agyemang.

Hometown

The screen Goddess, Nana Ama McBrown originally hails from Asuom in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Nana Ama McBrown, together with her other six siblings, lived and grew up with their auntie and adopted father at Kwadaso (with the proper name spelt as “Kora daso {Calabash is placed on top}” in Kumasi.

She has often regarded her auntie as her ‘real mother’ for the care she and her siblings received from her (the auntie).

Nana Ama McBrown’s biological mother, Madam Cecilia Agyenim Boateng currently lives in Germany.

Nana Ama McBrown started her early education at St. Peter’s International Residential School.

Nana Ama McBrown’s  breakthrough in the movie industry is an interesting one that will make you go like, #Brimm!

So, Nana Ama answered an audition call made on radio and was initially hired as a costume artist by Samuel Nyamekye — movie director and owner of Miracle Films.

Whilst on set, Fred Amugi, who was the lead actor, was supposed to drive a KIA truck as the leader of a robbery gang but performed ‘abysmally’.

Nana Ama McBrown, who had driven a car like a professional on set the previous the day, was invited to ‘try‘ but surprised everyone on set including the director, Samuel Nyamekye, by driving the KIA truck like a ‘professional armed robber’, and that was it!

She has since not looked back.

Nana Ama’s first movie, That Day, which was released in 2001, became the launching pad for her career.

Her exposed talent earned her a spot in the TV series, Tentacles which was shown on GTV, Ghana’s national television.

Asoreba (church member)” — a complete Twi movie directed by Samuel Nyamekye in 2007, which co-starred Agya Koo and Mercy Asiedu was what shot Nana Ama McBrown to instant fame.

Then came in Okyeame Kwame, the Rap Doctor sometime in 2004 who had a ‘thing’ going on with Nana Ama McBrown until the two love birds amicably decided to part ways.

After her relationship with Okyeame Kwame fell apart, she moved on and dated Nana Wiafe Akenteng of Asante Hemang in the Ashanti Region of Ghana sometime in 2006.
